At the sawmill, delivered round timber passes through several processing stages. Logs are first debarked and measured, then cut using frame saws, band saws, or circular saws. Depending on the cutting pattern, half-rounds, planks, boards, or squared timber are produced. By-products such as sawdust, wood chips, and bark are used for energy generation or material applications. Modern sawmills use fully automated sorting and optimization systems that plan the sawing process using computer support to maximize raw material yield. Sawn timber quality is classified according to DIN 4074 grading standards. Drying facilities subsequently achieve defined moisture content levels required for timber construction and further processing.
